On March 1st, 2008, the first annual LSU Ski Train took place.

17 of us met at Union Station in down town Denver at 7AM. After loading all of our skis and bags on to our club car, we took off for lovely Winter Park. Breakfast was included in our package, so we enjoyed waffles, fruit, breakfast burritos and other delicious items. The weather was expected to be extremely nice that day, and it didn't disappoint. The clear skies offered beautiful vistas around every curve in the track. The near-50 degree weather offered some of the most comfortable skiing of the season yet. Despite the warm weather and bright sun, the snow in Winter Park was great for some early-spring skiing.

Those who participated this year took advantage of the ski train in many different ways:

• Alex and Rhonda Wyche, from the Wake Forest alumni association, used the opportunity to go on a guided snowmobile tour in a town right outside of Winter Park. They were very pleased with their 3-hour tour, and were back in plenty of time to catch the train for the return trip.


• Katherine Bain used the opportunity to take an advanced class on skiing moguls. (Mary Jane, a ski area adjacent to Winter Park, is known for its great mogul terrain.)


• Betty Ziman, of New Orleans, took her VERY FIRST skiing class that day. She really appreciated the fact that she was able to relax during the return trip.

• EVERYBODY had a great time on the trip home. This was partly due to the fact that SOMEBODY (no names will be given here) brought a large amount of whiskey on to the train for the ride home. Everyone forgot about their tired legs by the time we hit Union Station.

All-in-all, the LSU Ski Train was a smashing success. Most everyone left Union Station that evening looking forward to the 2nd annual LSU Ski Train in 2009.

The picnic starts at noon, and will last until 5PM.

The location this year is Washington Park, picnic site #3 (see below for map).

Kids aged ten and under eat free, but please register them so that the proper amount of food can be ordered.

Cost: $15/person

BBQ Catering: Big Papa's will be providing the BBQ this year. The menu is as follows:

· Hickory Smoked Pulled Pork and Hickory Smoked Brisket
· Mac n Cheese, BBQ Beans, Cole Slaw and Greens
· All four of their regional BBQ Sauces
· Dessert will be Brownies
· Bread will be sliced to order for each guest
· Tea, Sweet Tea and Water will be served as beverages

The deadline to purchase tickets has already passed. NO WALK-UPS ARE ALLOWED THIS YEAR.

The festivities will be held from 4-8PM on Sunday, August 8th at Nono's Cafe in Littleton.

The 2011 LSU Denver Alumni Crawfish Boil is set for Saturday, May 7th from 3-6PM. We'll be boiling and eating on the patio at Brooklyn's, our normal game-watching location. Details/directions can be found on our view-ins page.

We'll purchase 5 lbs. of crawfish for each paid attendee, but for drinks you'll go through Brooklyn's. The cost will be $20 per person for crawfish and all the fixins' ( $18 per person IF 2011 Dues have been paid ). We'll arrange a couple of beer specials with Brooklyn's as well.

BROOKLYN'S IS KID FRIENDLY! We will have the patio to ourselves, so bringing kids is not a problem. Cost for kids ( Under 12 years old ) will be $6 if they want to eat crawfish, otherwise, Brooklyn's kitchen will be open.
